Fabulous Limoges tankard with currants. This Art Nouveau style tankard features an applied leaf and vine that wraps around its handle. The bottom portion of the tankard boasts a lovely leaf and vine design in raised relief. The piece is expertly hand painted with rusty red currants and greenery on a ground of ivory, salmon, and sienna. Lovely gold gilding accents the mouth of the tankard. Intricate gold scrollwork encircles the upper neck portion of the tankard. There is no artist signature, but the hand painted decoration is of very high quality. There are three small wear spots to the sienna painted high points on the lower back of the tankard. These spots do not, in any way, detract from the beauty of the piece. Please refer to the photo. The tankard stands a stately 15 ½" tall and measures 6" in diameter at its widest point. It is marked with the Tressemann and Vogt underglaze white ware mark in green, circa 1892-1907. With no chips, cracks, or repairs, this handsome tankard is in excellent condition. |
